Strother Martin
STROTHER MARTIN. Vintage 8x10 glossy black and white chest-up portrait from Sssssss (1973), boldly signed (in purple felt tip ink) and inscribed (in blue felt tip ink), "For/Mr. William/Stanhope/all good wishes/Strother Martin." Very fine condition. Prolific character actor Strother Martin appeared in scores of films and television series from 1950 until his death in 1980. He was most often seen in Westerns, playing, in his own words, "prarie scum." He was closely associated with John Wayne and director Sam Peckinpah, who cast him in such films as The Wild Bunch (1969) and The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970), among others. The cheesy mad scientist flick, Sssssss, provided Martin with one of his few leading roles and top billing.
