Russ Columbo
RUSS COLUMBO. Vintage 6.5 x 9 double-weight satin finish light sepia tone chest-up portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, "To Joseph/Best Wishes/Russ Columbo." Very good condition, with numerous mild handling bends, most of them noticeable only when the photograph is angled into the light, but several visible on his shirt and left cheek, slightly detracting from overall appearance; and the entire photograph trimmed from its original 8x10 size. Youthful crooner and songwriter Russ Columbo soared to popularity in the late 1920s and early 1930s, garnering his own radio show and a lucrative recording contract. He also made a successful foray into films and appeared headed for a successful movie career when he was killed in a freak gun accident in 1934 at the age of 27. Signed photographs are extremely uncommon.
