Joe Cook
JOE COOK. Scarce vintage 8x10 pearl finish sepia tone chest-up portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, "To/Sanford G*********/With best wishes/from/Joe Cook." Small patches of faint silvering to the darker areas of the image, invisible when the photograph is viewed head on; otherwise very fine condition. Virtually forgotten today, Joe Cook was a highly popular stage comic of the 1920s. His hit Broadway comedy of 1928, Rain or Shine, was also the vehicle for his feature length film debut in 1930 under the direction of Frank Capra. That rather limp entertainment proved to be the high point of his film career, which plodded along for another half dozen low-budget efforts released during the decade.
