Earl Carroll
EARL CARROLL. Vintage 8x10 glossy sepia tone chest-up profile portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, "To Bill Bessette/Who's goin' to get/a picture of/Sid Skolsky's pet/Earl Carroll/1931." Photo by Underwood & Underwood, better known for their presidential portraits. One small bend to the bottom left corner tip; otherwise very fine condition. The would-be rival to Florenz Ziegfeld produced lavish revues, the "Earl Carroll Vanities," in his own Broadway theater throughout the 1920s, boasting lavish production numbers featuring scantily clad cuties. He was also a playwright, director, and composer, several of his works being transferred to the screen.
