Dick Haymes
DICK HAYMES. Vintage 1940s 3.5 x 5.5 glossy sepia tone chest-up portrait, signed in blue ballpoint ink. Fine condition, with a mild vertical bend at the bottom edge and the last portion of his surname penned against the dark fabric of his jacket and a bit difficult to see unless the image is angled into the light. One of the most popular male vocalists of the 1940s and early '50s, Dick Haymes appeared as the lead singer with Harry James, Benny Goodman, and, most importantly, Tommy Dorsey as a replacement for Frank Sinatra. He enjoyed success in films, on radio, and as a recording star, but suffered an irreversible decline in popularity with the end of the big band era.
