Bill Elliott
"WILD" BILL ELLIOTT. Vintage 10.3 x 12.2 matte finish black and white chest-up Western portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, "To Ed/from/'Your friend'/'Wild' Bill Elliott." Fine condition, with trimmed borders; a small tear at the top right corner; and a few small white spots in his hat. Bill Elliott entered films in 1925 at age 21 and proceeded to play small roles, often uncredited, in over 150 films during the ensuing decade. In 1938, Columbia cast him as Wild Bill Hickok in a 15-part serial, and his career was permanently altered. Elliott became a "B" Western star, appearing in scores of films for the next 16 years, frequently playing a lawman known as "Wild Bill" Elliott. He played Red Ryder in 18 films for Republic Studio in the mid-1940s. Signed photographs in oversize format are extremely uncommon.
