Ben Lyon
Sepia tone 6.8 x 10 head and shoulders book-weight portrait, with printed biography below, removed from the 1930 edition of "Stars of the Photoplay," boldly signed and inscribed in green fountain pen, "To John -/With best wishes/Ben Lyon." Fine condition, with a slightly trimmed right border. A pencil notation along the extreme top left edge indicates that this page was signed in person in May 1965. Ben Lyon was a modestly popular silent screen leading man who appeared opposite such screen divas as Gloria Swanson, Claudette Colbert, Barbara LamMarr and Pola Negri. Making a smooth transition to sound, he had his greatest screen success as the hero of Howard Hughes's Hell's Angels (1930). After marrying actress Bebe Daniels, he relocated to England, where the couple became enormously popular on the stage and radio for several decades. John Verzi collection.
