Alice White
ALICE WHITE. Vintage 10.5 x 13 matte finish black and white head and shoulders studio portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in green fountain pen, "To Ben Griefer/Thanks for a nice week - I/certainly enjoyed being/here. You have been more/than kind to me./Lots of thanks/Alice White." Fine condition, with trimmed borders; and three handling bends in the background -- one along the left edge, and two in the top right corner -- slightly detracting from overall appearance. The effervescent leading lady of the late 1920s and early '30s was groomed as Warner Bros.' answer to Clara Bow. She was wildly popular with audiences for a brief period of time; but modest acting ability, poor scripts, and a series of personal scandals soon reduced her to supporting roles and her career was at an end, for all intents and purposes, by the end of the 1930s.
