ZITA JOHANN. Glossy 8×10 black and white half-length costume portrait from an unknown film, boldly signed and inscribed in later years in blue felt tip ink, “To Pauline/Best wishes/Zita Johann.” Very fine condition. One of many successful Broadway actresses recruited by Hollywood following the advent of sound, Zita Johann appeared in a mere seven films, and is best remembered as Boris Karloff’s love interest in The Mummy. In 1934 she returned permanently to the stage, discouraged by the poor quality of the films in which she was cast. Her stage career would continue until 1942.
