Vintage 7.2 x 9 glossy black and white half-length portrait as The Great Gildersleeve, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “To Raymond/Regards/Willard Waterman.”  Fine condition, with a tiny bend to the top left corner tip; an original studio snipe affixed to the reverse side; and a date stamp of October 1953 printed on the reverse side.  Comic character actor Willard Waterman initially played Gildersleeve on radio for five years before taking the character to television for 40 episodes in 1955.  He appeared in dozens of television series in the 1950s and ’60s, and appeared in such films as Auntie Mame (1958) and The Apartment (1960).
