WHEELER and WOOLSEY. Vintage 10.75 x 13.75 matte finish black and white full-length studio portrait of the comedy duo, boldly boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “To You/Bert. Here’s/hoping this won’t/be the last one/Sincerely/Robert Woolsey, “ and additionally signed by Bert Wheeler. Fine condition, with partially trimmed borders (please note that the borders are not shown in the accompanying scan). The two lowbrow vaudevillians were first paired in Florenz Ziegfeld’s 1927 Broadway hit, Rio Rita. They went on to repeat their roles in the godawful 1929 film version, and continued working together as a team in nearly two dozen films until Woolsey’s death at age 50 in 1938. Signed photographs are extremely uncommon, this being the first I have had in over a decade.
