Vintage 5×7 matte finish sepia tone half-length studio portrait, boldly inscribed in German and signed, Magyar-style, in green fountain pen, “Fur meine kleine Dolmetscher/Banky Vilma/20-11-1925.”  An embossed stamp of the photography studio Pach Bros. is at the bottom right.  Near very fine condition, with a portion of the writing penned against darker areas of the image, but the signature quite readable.  The silent screen beauty, dubbed “the Hungarian rhapsody,” was famed for her romantic onscreen pairings with Ronald Colman and Rudolph Valentino. After a handful of dismal early talkies, she retired from the screen and lived happily with actor/husband Rod La Rocque until his death in 1969.
