Uncommon vintage 5×7 matte finish sepia tone chest-up glamour portrait, boldly signed in black fountain pen, “Sincerely/Tala Birell/1937.”  Near very fine condition, with light staining in the bottom border.  The Romanian-born actress, following brief film experience in Germany, was snagged by Hollywood in 1932 and quickly groomed as another Garbo. Over the course of the 1930s and ’40s, she would appear in three dozen films but, like every other not-quite-Garbo, failed to generate sparks at the box office.
