Original vintage 8×10 glossy black and white Universal Pictures publicity still from Sssssss (1973), boldly signed and inscribed in purple felt tip ink, “For/Dale/Thank you/for/the kind thoughts/always/Strother Martin.”  Very fine condition, with a studio snipe printed on the reverse side.  Prolific character actor Strother Martin appeared in scores of films and television series from 1950 until his death in 1980. He was most often seen in Westerns, playing, in his own words, “prairie scum.” He was closely associated with John Wayne and director Sam Peckinpah, who cast him in such films as The Wild Bunch (1969) and The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970), among others. The cheesy mad scientist flick, Sssssss, provided Martin with one of his few leading roles and top billing.
