STEPIN FETCHIT. Vintage 1930s 8×10 matte finish black and white full-length portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “To Jeanne/From/Stepin Fetchit.” A few negligible border flaws; otherwise very fine condition. Controversial black character actor Stepin Fetchit became wealthy for his portrayals of shuffling, dim-witted menials during the 1930s and ’40s, but was later reviled for perpetuating the worst sorts of racial stereotypes through his performances. Vintage signed photographs are exceptionally scarce.
