STANLEY BAKER

STANLEY BAKER. Rugged, virile British actor, a real man’s man who never once was heard to murmer, “Oh, my dearest darling, ” onscreen. Even a selective glance at the titles of some of his films — Sea Fury, Violent Playground, The Angry Hills, The Guns of Navarone, Robbery — are a good indicator of the type of roles he played. Died of lung cancer at age 49, shortly after being knighted for his work in film over more than three decades. Vintage 9.5×7.5 glossy black and white bust portrait from an unidentified film, boldly inscribed in black marker, “To Dorothea/Best Wishes/Stanley Baker.” Fine condition, with a small bend to the lower left corner, slight surface chipping along two edges, a pair of surface bends in the signature area, and faint evidence of tape residue along the left and right sides, resulting in a thin band of yellowing along the right edge. Extremely scarce in signed photographs.
