Great-looking vintage 1933 8×10 glossy black and white Paramount Pictures studio portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “To Mary Barker/Best Wishes/Richard Arlen.”  Fine condition, with a small bend to the bottom right corner tip; noticeable creasing to the left border, not affecting his signature; and a faint diagonal paper clip impression at the top left, lightly touching two letters of the inscription. Richard Arlen became a Hollywood leading man in the latter years of the silent era. However, like fellow silent screen hunks George O’Brien and Charles Farrell, his acting talents were revealed to be woefully modest with the advent of the microphone, and he was fairly quickly relegated to low-budget action films, but soldiered on for another four decades with appearances in film and on television until his death in 1976.
