RAYMOND HATTON. Vintage 1920s 8×10 matte finish silver tone chest-up portrait by Evans of L.A., boldly signed and inscribed in green fountain pen, “To Ross/Gratefully your’s/Raymond Hatton.” Very fine condition. One of the most prolific character actors in American screen history, Raymond Hatton entered films in 1909 and worked steadily for the next 56 years, ultimately appearing in over 300 films, not to mention numerous television series. His specialty was Westerns, playing Johnny Mack Brown’s sidekick in dozens of oaters, but he tried his hand at everything, from dramas to slapstick comedies. Despite his lengthy career, signed photographs are unaccountably scarce.
