Vintage 8×10 MGM silver gelatin chest-up portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “To Frank Stuart/with best wishes of/Raymond Hackett.” One faint bend in the top border; otherwise very fine condition. Raymond Hackett began his career as a child actor in early silent screen films, then re-emerged during the transition to sound films playing juvenile leads opposite such stars as Gloria Swanson, Ruth Chatterton, Norma Shearer, and Bette Davis. Despite his good looks and talent, his film career ended abruptly and mysteriously in 1931, after which he devoted himself exclusively to the stage, including a number of unsuccessful Broadway productions. It was during one stage production that he met former silent screen star Blanche Sweet, also now working exclusively in theater. They were married in 1935 and remained together until his death in 1958. Signed photographs are extremely uncommon.
