PERCY MARMONT

Black and white 7.7 x 10.7 chest-up portrait, with printed biography below, removed from the 1924 edition of “Stars of the Photoplay,” boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “To John/Percy Marmont.”  A pencil notation along the extreme top left edge indicates that this image was signed in person in September 1963.  John Verzi collection.  Fine condition, with mild handling bends in the borders.  The somber-looking British leading man played leads in dozens of silent screen films, appearing opposite such stars as Clara Bow, Corinne Griffith and Alice Joyce.  After returning to England in 1928, he continued to appear in films and on the stage for another three decades, playing opposite Vivien Leigh in her final British stage appearance in 1965.
