Scarce, bold vintage signature and inscription, “Para John/Carisamente/Pedro Armendariz,” in blue fountain pen on a beige album page, about 4.5 x 4.  Very fine condition.  One of Mexico’s leading actors from the 1940s on, Pedro Armendariz also appeared in such John Ford classics as Fort Apache and 3 Godfathers (both 1948). His final film role was as Kerim Bey in From Russia With Love (1963). Having completed his scenes, he returned home and shot himself to preclude a lingering death from cancer, which he had reportedly contracted from exposure to radiation during the filming of The Conqueror in Russia in 1956.
