PAULINE STARKE. Sepia tone 7.2 x 10.7 chest-up book-weight portrait, with printed biography below, removed from the 1924 edition of “Stars of the Photoplay, ” boldly signed in blue fountain pen. Photo by Evans. Fine condition, with very mild handling bends in the borders and extremely slight raggedness where the vertical edges were trimmed. After numerous bit roles in silent short films, Pauline Starke was discovered by director Frank Borzage, who guided her career to leading lady starus. She starred with great success in several dozen films throughout the 1920s, but her career rather quickly stalled with the advent of sound, her final screen appearance being an uncredited bit role in 1943. Uncommn in signed images. John Verzi collection.
