Vintage 1934 8×10 glossy sepia tone full-length publicity portrait of the chic-looking leadig lady, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “For [indecipherable] Bernette/Best Wishes -/Sincerely/Pauline Lord.” Fine condition, with mild creasing in the top and bottom bborders. A studio snipe on the reverse side announces the actress’s upcoming film debut in Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch (1934), in which she played opposite W. C. Fields. After one more film, she left Hollywood forever, returning to the stage, where she had created the roles of Anna Christie in 1921 and Nina Leeds in Strange Interlude (1928). In 1946, she triumphed as Amanda in the national tour of The Glass Menagerie, which would prove to be her final stage appearance.
