NEIL HAMILTON. Vintage 1930s 8×10 matte finish black and white half-length portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in green fountain pen, “To Isabel’s Mother & Father -/with my every good wish./Neil Hamilton.” Fine condition, with slightly trimmed borders; a faint stain in the background above his right shoulder; and a single very mild handling bend in the background above the writing, barely visible when the image is viewed head on. Hamilton’s career was a testament to perseverance: More than forty years after gaining stature as one of the most popular leading men of the silent screen, he achieved newfound popularity in the role of Commissioner Gordon on television’s “Batman” series in the 1960s. In the interim, he appeared in dozens of films and television series, sometimes in leading roles, more frequently in smaller assignments.
