The talented British actor, whose film career has spanned six decades, had an early career peak when he was named best actor at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance in A Taste of Honey (1961). Since then, he has appeared in scores of films and television series, including Barry Lyndon (1975) and The Phantom of the Opera (2004), and was a great favorite of director Ken Russell, who cast him in many of his films.
