Vintage 7.6 x 9.7 glossy black and white chest-up costume portrait from an unknown film by Gainsborough Pictures, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “Best wishes/to/Edward Brown/Moore Marriott.”  Very good condition, with scattered creasing and handling bends; and a small tear in the background along the left edge, visible in the accompanying scan, crudely repaired on the reverse side with tape.  Starting in early silent films, British comic character actor Moore Marriott appeared in over 130 films during the course of a four-decade career.  From the 1930s on, he was generally cast as doddering, daft country types, frequently cast alongside Will Hay and Graham Moffatt.  Signed photographs are relatively uncommon, but this is priced to reflect condition.
