The boxer turned gangster was nicknamed “the Al Capone of Los Angeles.” After being jailed for tax evasion in 1951, Cohen announced that he had reformed, opening a string of nightclubs, restaurants, clothing stores, gas stations, etc., only to be jailed a second time for tax evasion in 1961, serving more than a decade in Alcatraz.
