Borderless vintage 7×5 glossy black and white bust portrait, signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint ink, “For John/Best… Always./Michel Subor.” About fine condition, with ink adhesion difficulties with much of the lettering in the first name of his signature; and light staining in the background along the bottom left edge and along a portion of the extreme top edge, detracting very slightly from overall appearance but which could almost entirely be trimmed away. John Verzi collection. The French leading man achieved popularity through his appearance as Brigitte Bardot’s boyfriend in the risque 1961 comedy, La Bride sur la Cou, and solidified his reputation as the star of the early Jean-Luc Godard film, Le petit soldat, filmed in 1960 but banned until 1963. He also had roles in such films as What’s New, Pussycat? (1965) and Hitchcock’s Topaze (1969), and has continued to work almost up to the present without ever obtaining major mainstream visibility.
