Borderless vintage 4 x 5.5 glossy black and white chest-up studio portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in green fountain pen, “Pour Alan Tubb/amical souvenir/Martine Carol.”  Fine condition, with one small background ding and a very mild bend to the top corner tip.  Promoted as France’s answer to Marilyn Monroe, Martine Carol starred in several dozen French films of the late 1940s and early 1950s, the most notable of which was Max Ophuls’s Lola Montes (1955). Her career began to decline following the rise in popularity of Brigitte Bardot.
