MARGARET LOCKWOOD. Vintage 8×10 glossy black and white bust publicity portrait, signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, “To/The Playouse Theatre/with every good wish/Margaret Lockwood.” Fine condition, with a tack hole and faint tack impression in the top border; scattered mild handling bends in the borders and one in the background just above her head; and the inscription extremely faint, possibly the result of erasure, but the signature strong and clear. Margaret Lockwood was an accomplished star of the British stage and screen. Best remembered for her starring performance in Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes (1938), she also enjoyed a long string of successes at the Gainsborough Studios, playing villainnesses in such heavy-breathing costume dramas as The Man in Grey (1943) and The Wicked Lady (1945).
