Vintage 1920s 3.5 x 5.5 matte finish black and white chest-up studio portrait, boldly signed in black fountain pen, with an inscription to John Verzi in turquoise fountain pen that was likely added in the early 1960s.  Very fine condition.  Appearing in a score of silent British melodramas during the 1920s, Mabel Poulton was briefly ranked as Britain’s top female star at the tail end of the silent era. But a heavy cockney accent quickly undercut her screen image when she stepped before the microphone, and by 1938 her career was effectively at an end.
