Vintage 8×10 matte finish sepia tone chest-up publicity portrait, signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “To Mr. Miller/with best wishes/Lewis S. Stone.”  Fine condition, with a lengthy but extremely faint diagonal bend that passes through his left shoulder, close to completely invisible when the photograph is viewed head on.  In a lengthy career that stretched from the early silents to the early 1950s, Lewis S. Stone appeared in over 150 films, mostly at MGM, where he remained under contract for 29 years. He generally played authority figures of unimpeachable rectitude, and is most fondly remembered as Judge Hardy in the long-running Andy Hardy series. Signed photographs are surprisingly scarce.
