Leonard Frey first gained attention with his performance as the self-hating “Jew fairy” Harold in the original off-Broadway production of The Boys in the Band, repeating his performance in the film version. The following year, he was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Fiddler on the Roof (1971). He died of AIDS in 1988 at the age of 49.
