Vintage 3.5 x 5.5 matte finish sepia tone chest-up portrait from Germany’s “Iris” studio, boldly signed in black fountain pen.  Fine condition, with mild bends in the border at the bottom right corner, not affecting the image; a tiny tear in the left border; and a small ink smudge at the tail end of his signature.  Swedish actor Lars Hanson came to international prominence playing the title role in The Saga of Gosta Berling (1924) opposite co-star Greta Garbo. Subsequently, he and Garbo were signed to contracts by MGM and Larson relocated to Hollywood, where he gave outstanding performances in such silent classics as The Scarlet Letter, Flesh and the Devil (both 1926) and The Wind (1928). The advent of sound effectively ended his Hollywood career, and he returned to Sweden, where he continued to act in films and garnered a reputation as one of Sweden’s most formidable stage actors. Autographed material in virtually any format is quite uncommon.
