Vintage 7.5 x 9.6 glossy black and white double-weight glossy bust portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “To Billie/Every good wish/John Boles/1949.”  Near fine condition, with very slightly trimmed borders; small corner pin holes; and an area of light discoloration in the background at the bottom right corner.  The handsome, stolid, personality-free leading man of the 1930s appeared prominently in such classic weepies as Back Street> (1932) and Stella Dallas> (1937), as well as the original Frankenstein (1931). He had a fine singing voice and made dutiful, passionless love to such screen beauties as Barbara Stanwyck, Irene Dunne, Jean Muir and Claire Trevor.
