JESSIE MATTHEWS

Borderless vintage 7.75 x 10.7 matte finish black and white publicity portrait, signed with her name alone in black fountain pen.  Fine condition, with mild silvering in the background, and the signature just a shade light but readable.  A notation on the reverse side indicates that this photograph was signed in June 1929.  The British star of stage and screen was at her peak in the 1930s, appearing in a series of charming light musicals throughout the decade, as well as Alfred Hitchcock’s mercifully single foray into musical film, Waltzes From Vienna (1934).
