Vintage 1930s 3.3 x 5.3 matte finish black and white chest-up portrait, boldly signed to the bottom border in blue fountain pen, “Sincerely/Jean Muir.”  Fine condition, with heavy mounting remnants on the reverse side.  A sensitive, subtle leading lady somewhat in the Ann Harding mode, Jean Muir appeared in several dozen films throughout the 1930s and early 1940s. Dissatisfied with the quality of the roles being offered her, she abandoned the screen in 1943 and concentrated on theatrical work. A budding television career was quickly scuttled when she was blacklisted as a suspected Communist sympathizer during the McCarthy witch hunts.
