JANE WITHERS. Adorable vintage 1937 8×10 glossy black and white chest-up 20th Century-Fox publicity portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, “For Dan + Melinda -/wishing you a Lifetime of happiness/Most Sincerely/Jane Withers.” Very fine condition, with a studio snipe printed on the reverse side. By the middle of the 1930s, rambunctious Jane Withers was America’s second most popular child star, trailing only Shirley Temple in box office appeal. Although her films were decidedly budgeted as “B” pictures, she churned out fifty of them at a rate of about eight per year and by 1940 was ranked number six among America’s top ten box office draws.
