Vintage 5×7 matte finish black and white chest-up studio portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in purple fountain pen, “To/Dorothy/from/Helen M. Westley.”  Near fine condition, with a short tear in the left border that affects the first two letters of her signature.  The tear has been repaired with a piece of scotch tape on the front and the back, the tape on the front being close to invisible when the photograph is viewed head on.  Helen Westley specialized in playing acid-tongued, foul-tempered matrons, appearing in over three dozen films during the 1930s and early ’40s.
