Vintage 3.5 x 5.5 semi-glossy black and white bust portrait, boldly signed in blue fountain pen, “Souvenir/amical/Harry Bauer.”  Near very fine condition, with a band of light silvering in the darker areas along the right edge, completely invisible when the photograph is viewed head on.  The renowned French actor was at his peak in the 1930s, appearing in several dozen movies.  Following a trip to Germany to seek financing for a film, he was arrested by the Gestapo and tortured for suspected anti-Nazi activities.  He died mysteriously only two days after being released from prison in April 1943.
