Vintage 10×8 glossy black and white three-quarter length publicity portrait for These Charming People (1931), boldly signed in black fountain pen, “Best wishes/Godfrey Tearle.”  About fine condition, with slight paper loss to the bottom left corner; and scattered mild handling bends and faint surface warping from a studio snipe (most of it now removed) affixed to the reverse side.  Primarily a stage actor and noted Shakespearean, Godfrey Tearle is best remembered by moviegoers for his performance as a villainous spy with a missing finger in Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps (1935), one of three dozen films in which he appeared.
