GINA CIGNA. Vintage 4×6 semi-glossy silver tone portrait as La Scala’s Gioconda, boldly signed in purple fountain pen. Fine condition, with a small bend in the top left corner and moderate contrast to her first name, which is penned against the dark fabric of her costume. One of the leading Italian sopranos of the interwar period, Gina Cigna sang regularly at La Scala and appeared as well as the Metropolitan Opera, London’s Royal Opera House, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago, garnering strong reviews for her Verdi heroines, as well as roles such as Turandot and Norma, both of which she recorded in the 1930s.
