GERTRUDE BERG. Vintage 7×9 glossy sepia tone half-length portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, “To John/Gertrude Berg/Molly.” Fine condition, with mild edge creasing, most noticeable in the borders, and the actress switching pens because of ink adhesion difficulties as she began writing the inscription. A publicity snipe is affixed to the reverse side. Gertrude Berg was a true radio pioneer, being the first woman to create, write, produce and star in her own radio series, “The Goldbergs, ” beginning in 1929. After twenty years, the show became a television series, where it ran for an additional five years. Berg’s work on television won her the first Emmy awarded for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Signed photographs are surprisingly scarce.
