Vintage signature and inscription, “To John/Amicalement/Gerard Oury,” in black fountain pen on a 6×4 white index card. Very fine condition. A pencil notation on the reverse side indicates that this autograph was obtained in person in March 1966. John Verzi collection. After a two-decade career as an actor, Gerard Oury turned almost exclusively to directing and writing in 1960. Pairing Luis de Funes with Andre Bourvil, he created an enormously popular French comedy team, and in 1966 he directed the pair in La Grande Vadrouille, the most commercially successful French film ever made. He also directed comedies with such stars as Jean-Paul Belmond, Pierre Richard, and David Niven.
