FRANCES DRAKE. Regal-looking 8×10 matte finish silver tone half-length 1930s glamour portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, “Best wishes to Claude [indecipherable]/Frances Drake.” Mint condition. Although signed in fountain pen, my guess is that this is a later reproduction signed in later years. Frances Drake was frequently cast as a damsel in distress, menaced by the likes of Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. Dissatisfied with the quality of roles being offered to her, she retired from acting, at the urging of her husband, at age 30, but was unfailingly positive about her experiences in Hollywood in later interviews.
