Glossy 8×10 black and white full-length studio portrait, signed in later years in blue fountain pen.  Fine condition, with very mild handling bends at the top right corner tip and in the background along the top edge, close to unnoticeable when the photograph is viewed head on.  Frances Drake was frequently cast as a damsel in distress, menaced by the likes of Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. Dissatisfied with the quality of roles being offered to her, she retired from acting, at the urging of her husband, at age 30, but was unfailingly positive about her experiences in Hollywood in later interviews.
