John Verzi collection. Jazz composer and piano virtuoso Errol Garner gained prominence in the mid-1940s and performed almost non-stop until his death in 1977. Known for his up-tempo jazz works, he also composed ballads such as “Misty, ” his most popular work. Unable to read or write music, he normally tape recorded his improvised compositions, which would then be transcribed by others.
