Borderless 4.6 x 6.4 glossy black and white chest-up studio portrait by Vivienne, boldly signed and inscribed in black marker, “To John -/All my good wishes!/Elisabeth Welch.”  Very fine condition.  John Verzi collection.  After early success on Broadway in the 1920s, Elisabeth Welch relocated to England, where she starred opposite Paul Robeson in the films Song of Freedom (19360 and Big Fella (1937).  She appeared occasionally in films over the next four decades, along with nightclub appearances on the Continent, stage musicals in London, and a seven-decade recording career.
