Vintage 9.7 x 7.7 matte finish silver tone head and shoulders studio portrait, boldly signed in black fountain pen, “Sincerely yours/Dorothy Mackaill.”  Fine condition, with slightly trimmed borders and soiling in the left border.  The stylish actress starred in several dozen films during the 1920s and made a smooth transition to sound, specializing in steamy melodramas such as Once A Sinner, Kept Husbands, and Safe in Hell (all 1931), her suggestive on-screen antics helping to almost single-handedly usher in the Production Code. After her career petered out in 1937, she eventually relocated to Hawaii, making occasional guest appearances in later years on “Hawaii Five-O.”
