Vintage 1940s 3.5 x 5.5 double-weight glossy light sepia tone head and shoulders portrait from the British “Picturegoer” series, boldly signed in blue fountain pen, “Very Sincerely/Dinah Sheridan.”  Near very fine condition, with a portion of her surname penned against a shadowy area of the image, readable with moderate contrast.  Entering films in 1937, the decorous British actress appeared in numerous films throughout the 1940s.  She finally achieved stardom with her appearance in Genevieve (1953), but retired from acting almost immediately thereafter, returning after a lengthy hiatus to appear in several television series and such films as The Railway Children (1971) and The Mirror Crack’d (1980).
